Contemporary Technique by Ian Robinson and Rachael Osborne (former dancers with the Batsheva Dance Company)
We will give space to indulge our curiosity about shaping and coloring movement, inside and out. We will sweat. We will visit places of effort and research our connection to pleasure, as we explore the experience of dance and delve into how our environment both affects and infects us.
Ian Robinson was born in Bangor, Maine USA. He trained with the Robinson Ballet and graduated from New York University Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA. Early in his career Ian danced with various companies and projects including Mikhail Baryshnikov’s Hells Kitchen Dance, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Sydney Dance Company and Aszure Barton & Artists. From 2009 through 2017 Ian danced full time with the Batsheva Dance Company under the artistic leadership of Ohad Naharin. Ian continues independently to develop himself as a dancer, creator, teacher and videographer. He is a certified Gaga teacher, setting Ohad’s works on companies and leading classes and workshops for dance communities around the world.
Rachael Osborne was born in Canberra, Australia, and trained at the National Capital Ballet School under Janet Karin OAM. She holds an Associate Degree in Dance from the Queensland University of Technology. In September of 2000 she first encountered the Batsheva Dance Company and met Ohad Naharin. Rachael joined the Batsheva Dance Company later that season, and has a close, working relationship with Batsheva and Ohad until today. During her time with BDC, Rachael met and danced alongside Sharon Eyal, eventually becoming a formative member of Eyal’s own company L-E-V, in 2012.
Rachael is a dancer and certified Gaga teacher, teaches workshops and stages Ohad Naharin’s works around the world.
